San Francisco trip

I had a wonderful Thanksgiving break! I had some pretty big assignments due at the beginning of the week, so once they were done I was able to enjoy myself. Monday night was my roommate's birthday, so I took her out to a local Italian place. We got all dressed up! Tuesday afternoon my Mom arrived in Santa Cruz. Being the busy- bee that she is, she was stopping by for a "lay-over" on her way home from New Zealand! She had a wonderful trip, and we spent the last couple of days exchanging stories. We spent Tuesday at my campus's arboretum. The lighting was perfect so I went a little picture crazy. Here are a few: That night we headed up to San Francisco, with a quick sto p at my friend Erica's house to say 'hi' to her family who were also visiting. On Wednesday we explored Fisherman's wharf and ate our traditional "clam chowder in a bread bowl" while watching the sea lions. After a drive down Lombard Street, we went to Ghirardelli Square...

Spring and Summer 2016

Spring was great, full of: -  2 sets of house finch broods and mating alligator lizards on our porch - plenty of family and friend time - exploring new hobbies - tutoring and TAing Research Methods at Mesa College - presenting classroom research at a conference in Long Beach - Girl Scout events, including a backyard campout - a trip to Kauai with Mom and Tony! We snorkeled nearly everyday, and did a helicopter tour of the island. Here's a glimpse of April/May: Visited my friend Patrick in Tucson, AZ, and my friend Kaelle came down to SoCal for a visit! Appropriately posed in front of a silo in rural Pennsylvania. Last month (June), my Mom and I flew out to the east coast.  We started out looking for housing for me in Ohio and were very successful!  We found a great condo in a quiet, safe neighborhood only a few miles from campus (with an attached garage for those nasty winter days!)  I already have a roommate and furniture lined up. ...

Mariposas: A metaphor for human transformation

Yesterday morning we went to the butterfly farm in town... I'll let the pictures do the talking for this one. It was one of the most amazing things I've EVER seen, seriously. My new friend :) In flight Halloween Butterfly Butterflies have a very short lifespan: 5 days to 2 weeks, at most. From this... To this! At different stages... The ones just hanging there are drying their wings, getting ready for flight. They like banana and mango just as much as we do! These guys can cost up to $5 each if you wanted to buy them as cocoons. Soo... next time you go to a zoo and see some butterflies like these, keep in mind they were probably imported! Anyway, everything else has been going well for the most part. The food is s till super delicious (a sundae I had at a local cafe on the right!) but it does give me quite a stomach ache. Class is really fun. Yesterday we played "Taboo" in Spanish and talked about whatever. Our teacher is very lenient and mostly lets us talk ab...
